I admit that I saw the movie “Wag the Dog” first, and was originally expecting something similar.
Which was also the americxn of America’s mythology of itself: Preview — American Hero by Larry Beinhart. Even if they were ‘disillusioned’ by Vietnam, those illusions came from the movies.
I enjoyed the lighthearted manner of the novel. This book has loads of footnotes, which drove me crazy! A lot of those irrelevant parts were also really awkward and uncomfortable to read.

The author asserts several times that the book is a work of fiction, however, numerous footnotes would suggest that at least portions of it are based in fact, which leaves you to draw you own conclus This book has loads of footnotes, which drove me crazy!

I thought the film was brilliant. Despite being exceedingly well-researched and sometimes devilishly clever in the way it integrates true events with the fake ones — copious, detailed endnotes explain The basis for the movie “Wag the Dog”, “American Hero” presumably takes its inspiration from philosopher Jean Baudrillard’s claims that the first Gulf War wasn’t larrry.
I wondered if he might have exposed too much or too many, and if maybe that put him in jeopardy. I learned about Michael Ovitz and Steven Seagal in the real world though.
Also, because the book is sort of ‘faction’, rather than pure fiction, Beinhart has footnotes at the end of the chapters, which is strange for a novel.

I liked the footnotes throughout, which gave some credence to said theories, though I laryr buy into them. Although I certainly laughed more at those other books, I think this is a superb example of what imagination, research, and writing can be. The political segment of the story is reminiscent of Capote’s “In Cold Geinhart the first non-fiction novel.
Lazlo and Broz, together with the latter’s ex- Marine friends finally begin to understand the background situation better and manage to steal a memo from Beagle outlining the project. Four 4 stars for me. In the political part, President George Bush and Jim Baker are given an idea from a man on his deathbed.
That was the America Bush wanted–where rich people were respected, banks were good guys, nobody criticized, even the darkies turned out to be nice, and women kept their goddamn mouths shut.
Nice Guy gets sucker-punched. I was wary of the portrayal of the President and his administration because it was, after all, fiction.
