Chronicles of the Black Company by Glen Cook
Instead, we follow Kompanai, the physician and Annalist for the Black Company and a bit of a tongue-tied romantic with a dry sense of humoran infamous group of mercenary soldiers who hire themselves out to the highest bidder. I had to push myself to get through this book.
Kroniki Czarnej Kompanii Czarna Kompania I love how grim this universe is. Seriously that woman was bad ass and a genius. You’d be reading the book thinking everone was on the same timeline and kompaia part would pop up and he’d go, oh it’s been months or years and you’re just like.
Leaving them trapped forever under the earth, Murgen’s ghost forever doomed to walk through time? The characters czarja so damn engaging I found myself grinning sardonically or scowling right along with them, relishing their gallows camaraderie, their grit and tenacity, their ingenuity, and above all else their devotion to one another.

Ugh, my heart still hurts for those that perished. The tone they took, that things weren’t overly detailed.
In my opinion, some of the best moments in the books were the scenes where people were playing cards and doing nothing much. I really didn’t like this one as much as the previous 2 omnibuses. Jun 07, Ignacio Correa Falconi rated it really liked it.

What was the hook? I don’t know about you guys but it’s kind of hard to fall in love with characters that you don’t know For the most part, Cook eschews made-up words — everybody in kompaniq Company goes by nicknames, and cok of the cities are named things like Deal, Juniper, Oar, etc. As much as Croaker wanted to find out about her past, so did I.
His other series include Dread Empire and and the Garrett, P.
I’ve been meaning to get more up-to-date with several kompahia inso expect more such reviews in the months to come. Jun 12, Adon Coya rated it liked it. Aug 27, Lightreads rated it it was ok Shelves: Whether you like fantasy or not, check out the first book. Someone interested in a military spin on fantasy might find this interesting.
On sad days I dust them off and fondle them nostalgically, with a patronizing wonder at the naivete of the youth who dreamed them. That’s not even the most annoying part, whatever doesn’t interest Croaker he doesn’t take time describe. This series is a masterpiece, perfectly written.
I was pleasantly surprised. A compilation of 2 of the best books I’ve ever read.
Chronicles of the Black Company
Darling somehow manages to assemble a well organised network of rebels. Nowa edycja cyklu o Czarnej Kompanii skladac sie bedzie z czterech tomow: Return to Book Page. Cook writes in choppy, abrupt, stripped down prose, like a journalist writing on-the-spot field reports. The Black Company, how you have won my heart!
I really like how Glen Cook does not portray the characters as too strong or powerful and grounds the novel in a more human perspective. Ciok with This Book. Cook reveals those conventions to be easy but inaccurate. The action is very slow, but story is still ok, characters are great.
