He knows not what his fate may be–nor do we. He is a prisoner of the Spanish and tries to escape the torture. Something I did not enjoy, was eddgar something that at some points, it was hard to understand what was going on. I think the man – as with most of his violent criminals – was somewhat mad. No trivia or quizzes yet. The story is still pretty interesting though, Poe was able to capture and relay the narrator’s feeling of despair and hopelessness for his internment; the can reader can truly pozoo with his suffering from being locked in a cold, desolate cell, surrounded by constant reminders of his impending death: Reading his short stories as an adult, it has struck me that a lot of this suspense comes from his ability to thoroughly analyze and narrate a situation through the eyes of his characters.

When he awakes, he is in a dungeon and it is pitch black. The Pit and the Pendulum was such a short story, but Edgar Allan Poe wrote it dw such oendulo well- rounded way.

That’s probably a worse fate than being sliced in half by the pendulum— at least, that would be a quick death or plunging into a bottomless pit, that would hopefully be less painful than being gnawed to death by a plague of hungry rodents.
